The Spirit of Santana
Se a Cabo

The Horn Section

The "Se A Cabo" horns or "Cuernos de Fuego" (horns of fire) as they are sometimes called, provide a real sound of authenticity to the group. Typical of Latin popular music is the sound of trumpet and trombone in unison, punctuating and driving the energy of each tune they play. On trombone, Chuck Smith takes care of much of the horn arrangements while adding his powerful brassy sound. Dan Coyle on trumpet adds that real "Latin Burn" so necessary to the sound of "Se A Cabo". Both of these gentlemen have great credentials and have been heard in many a band as well as on cruise ships and stages across our region. "Se A Cabo" is thrilled to have "Cuernos de Fuego"!!!

Danny Sheerin

With his youthful looks, it’s hard to believe that Danny has been a busy bass player since 1970. At age 16 he began playing with "Max Court" and it is here that he first "cut his teeth" on some of the Santana repertoire. Other bands to follow included: "The Deciding Factor", "4 Way Street", "Harrison Barnes and the Sound Machine", "The Exact Change" and "The Gerard Mayer Band". Danny’s’ lighthearted outlook, co-operative nature and great sense of musicality have made him a favorite among musicians he’s worked with. Latin music is no easy ride for a bass player, yet, Danny lays down the finest foundation.

Buster Baldassari

The man with all the connections, Buster started to play public appearances with his first Hammond B3 (purchased from a funeral home) in 1968. He played the Holiday Inn Circuit from Bangor Main to Savannah Georgia, all the time performing on a B3. Many times Buster has been heard playing his B3 with "local" acts such as "The Exact Change" or his previous 10 piece group "Nevada". With "Se a Cabo", Busters’ motto "have B3 will travel" really does carry weight, the average B3 weighs in at roughly 300 pounds. What better way to feature the awesome sound of the Hammond than with the music of Carlos Santana.

Steve Corcoran

Having received piano lessons at a young age, Steve began learning guitar at age 11. Studying with Such luminaries as Dewey Vasquez and Richard Megni, Steve, who considers himself "primarily to be a blues guitarist" has been heard with Rock: Zootz, Blue Sugar, Maxus Country: Silver Eagle Band, Phoenix, Blues: Roadhouse Rockets, Cinder Brothers, and Party bands: Prime Time, The Exact Change. An avid Record collector, Steve finds inspiration in the performances of Eric Clapton, Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorious, Ron Wood, Marshall Crenshaw, Chet Baker, Robben Ford, and the great Carlos Santana. Steves’ endless drive for perfection in his own approach, as well as his humility makes him "THE" man to work with.

Jim Clark

A lifetime learner who, while in college majored in music, drummer Jim Clark feels that his diverse performing career which has included performances with "the BBK’s", "Aerial", "Lex Romaine Band", "East Coast", "Fire and Ice", "FlyBoys", "Which Doctor?", "Nevada", "Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood", as well as numerous theatrical and musical productions, has always been energetic and exciting. His artful use of technique, speed and power have enabled him to compliment the sound of every musical situation and one can’t but notice the shear joy with which he performs. Jim feels fortunate to be able to play the music of Carlos Santana and welcomes everyone to experience the "energy and drive" of one of NEPAs’ top musical acts.

Rick Statsman

A percussionist specializing in “world-beat” styles, Rick received his formal education from the Berklee College of Music. He has been seen in the drummers’ seat for many “top” bands: the“Indigo Moon Brass Band”. “Strawberry Jam”, “Big Daddy Dex & the Groove”, “The Godinez Brothers”, and even the “Clarence Spadey Blues Band”. Always energetic and fun, Rick really adds a lot of “heat” to the sound of “Se Acabo”, and truly enjoys the challenge put forth by the music of Carlos Santana.

Jack Vitale

Known to some as Johnny V. or as "the Bear", Jack has been performing professionally since age 15. A drummer at first, Jack realized he preferred singing. In no time at all he found himself fronting such acts as "The Buddy Mecca Band" "Black Fawn Forest" and "Beggars Opera". His charisma and "soulful" sound quickly had him opening for national acts like "Ike and Tina Turner" as well as "Dion and the Belmonts". Jacks versatility has allowed him to sing just about any style of popular music, yet he finds rare challenge in the music of Santana and brings new life to every performance.
